Red Hill Primary School

VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Reconciliation, in our context, is understanding each other's attitudes and opinions and accepting that they come from personal experience. It is about valuing our own culture, family and background and respecting those aspects in other people. It's about building respectful relationships with all members of the school community. We want to recognise and acknowledge the past to ensure it doesn't happen again, to make a way forward in partnership. Our vision is for students to feel comfortable and proud of their background and feel like it doesn't define them but makes them equal with everyone else.

We will do this through:

  • Promoting and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families to participate fully in school life.
  • Developing strong and respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, parents/caregivers, teaching and non-teaching staff.
  • Working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and inter-agency programs within our school community, including Student Aspirations.
  • Ensuring access to the highest quality learning and transition pathways programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Developing awareness and a whole school understanding of social and cultural issues, past and present.
  • Valuing the continuing importance and involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the life of Red Hill Primary School.
