Focusing on three key themes – cultural identity, copyright and controversy – this activity explores the cultural, historical and political significance of the Aboriginal Flag. Resources include a Living Black episode featuring an interview with Harold Thomas, who designed the Aboriginal Flag; a photograph of athlete Cathy Freeman holding the Aboriginal Flag at the 1994 Commonwealth Games; and Reconciliation Australia’s factsheet on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flags.
You may wish to refer to Reconciliation Australia's Flying the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags fact sheet to support you in carrying out this activity.
