National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time to spark a change in our schools, workplaces and communities, no matter how big or small.
Each year Reconciliation Australia selects a different theme to celebrate NRW. The theme for NRW 2017 was ‘Let’s Take the Next Steps’.
Each year, NRW is bookended by two significant dates:
the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum on May 27
the anniversary of the historic Mabo decision on June 3.
2017 was 50 years since the 1967 referendum and 25 years since the historic Mabo decision. As we commemorated these significant milestones, we asked all Australians to be a part of the next big steps in our nation’s reconciliation story.
In this activity, help students to explore the meaning and purpose of the 2017 theme and to create their own NRW poster.
