More Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Teachers

overview

Staff and RAP Working Group members are encouraged to explore and discuss the Be That Teacher campaign the AITSL publication In Focus: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Teachers from Australian Teacher Workforce Data to learn about ideas and opportunities for increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people teaching in schools and early learning services.

Be That Teacher is a joint Australian, state and territory government initiative which aims to showcase the value and importance of teachers and encourages Australians to consider a career in teaching.

The In Focus: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Teachers publication provides an understanding of the ‘career lifecycle’ of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers, from the beginning of their teaching journey through initial teacher education (ITE), to their experiences in the teacher workforce, and their future career intentions. This publication is the first time that such comprehensive data has been available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander teachers.
