We commit to celebrating the thriving histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to Australia. We believe that all Australians can take pride in the richness of our shared histories, and through our diversity, we can be united.
As a school, we strive to come together in reconciliation by establishing positive relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, both within SCEGGS and beyond. This is an active and reflective journey for students, families, and staff to learn about our school’s place in acknowledging and respecting the world’s oldest continuous living cultures.
At SCEGGS, reconciliation starts with the acknowledgment of past wrongdoings to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people since colonisation. We commit to understanding that the impact of intergenerational trauma and racism can still be felt by children, young people, and their communities. As a school community, we are committed to ensuring these wrongs will never be repeated and we will move towards healing, together.
Our teachers are committed to working alongside and learning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, especially the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Land on which our school stands. We will continue to respectfully incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, perspectives and histories into our teaching programs.
