At Barrenjoey Montessori School, we are dedicated to promoting reconciliation by actively learning about the rich cultural heritages of the Original Guardians of the land and water on which we learn and play. We strive to create an inclusive education environment that fosters respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, and histories.
To achieve this, we integrate real-life experiences and collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities into our curriculum. By engaging with First Nations Elders, Traditional Owners, and community members, BMS students will gain firsthand insights into the diverse and profound cultural traditions and knowledge systems of the First Peoples of Australia.
Our goal is to provide a holistic learning environment where cultural exploration is a key component of education. This involves inclusive curriculum, cultural immersion, collaborative projects, professional development, and community engagement.
By promoting these inclusive educational practices, we continue to generate a deep respect and appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our proactive stance on supporting First Nations peoples’ knowledges and understandings reflects our commitment to reconciliation and our belief in the value of diverse cultural perspectives in enriching the educational experience for all students.
