VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

At Goodstart Early Learning Centre Bateau Bay, we walk on Darkinjung Land.  Our vision for reconciliation is recognising and valuing the true histories, cultures, and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  Reconciliation is not one single action, but rather a journey that we all need to travel on.  This journey is based on historical acceptance, unity, trust and respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people.

To gain historical acceptance, we agree that all Australians need to understand and accept the devastating wrong doings of the past such as land removal, the violence and racism and the impact this continues to have Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Our understanding of these impacts will help shape our reconciliation journey.

Reconciliation encourages us to embrace a future that has both equality and equity in all areas of life and society.  To gain national unity we all need to have the same goal on our journey – the strengthening of the relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples.

At Goodstart Early Learning Centre Bateau Bay, educators will keep respectfully embedding into our curriculum Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander true histories, knowledges, cultures and languages with the children at our service.  We would like to see the truth be owned, so that the wounds of the past can be healed as we move forward together on the reconciliation journey
