VISION FOR RECONCILIATION

Our vision for reconciliation at JELC is to create a culturally safe, inclusive, and respectful environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, cultures, and histories are valued and celebrated. We are committed to fostering respectful, genuine and meaningful relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, honouring their knowledge and contributions to shaping educational outcomes.

Our vision acknowledges that reconciliation is an ongoing process that requires active engagement with diverse school/service community members. We strive to engage in critical reflection, forward-thinking, and aspirational practices that promote a strengths-based approach to reconciliation. We recognise the importance of cultural safety and respectful and inclusive language in our reconciliation journey.

We understand that reconciliation encompasses multiple dimensions and goes beyond surface-level diversity and inclusion. It is about recognising and respecting the unique histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as integral parts of our shared national identity. Reconciliation is a collective responsibility that benefits all Australians and requires genuine two-way relationships built on mutual respect and understanding.

Through our vision for reconciliation, we aim to create a community that embraces diversity, promotes cultural responsiveness, and actively works towards building a more inclusive and equitable society for future generations
