We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Lands on which we work and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was and always will be, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Land.
Sutherland Child Care Centre aims to foster an inclusive, trusting, and culturally safe environment for all children to learn and grow. We endeavour to ensure that all the children in our care are accepting of all cultural backgrounds, including those of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We envision a generation of leaders who are well-educated and respectful of the Traditional Owners of the Land which they inhabit.
For Sutherland Child Care Centre, a reconciled Australia feels like a safe and welcoming environment in which people who associate with different identities, movements and worldviews are accepted; where conscious and unconscious bias has been or is moving towards being eradicated. A reconciled Australia looks like an environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and perspectives are seamlessly integrated into everyday learning, where children of all backgrounds play and learn together with mutual respect and understanding, where First Nations children, staff and families feel empowered and valued, and where the stories, traditions, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are integrated and respected as a fundamental part of the community’s identity.
Based on our personal reconciliation journey and learnings thus far, our next most powerful steps involve actively continuing to participate in cultural responsiveness training to deepen our understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. Additionally, we will continue to implement strategies to ensure we are better informed of the beliefs and views of the Dharawal people whose Land we occupy. By doing so, we aim to foster an environment of respect, inclusivity, and genuine connection with the local First Nations community, ensuring that our reconciliation efforts are meaningful and impactful.
